Tension and Trauma Release Exercises (TRE™)
A series of simple movements that assist the body in releasing deep muscular patterns of stress, tension, and trauma, as well as emotions, through a natural self-regulating tremor response
Origins
TRE™ was developed by David Berceli, PhD, whose work bridges neuroscience, trauma studies, and the body’s capacity for recovery and resilience. While working in war zones and post conflict regions, Berceli observed that people exposed to extreme stress often experienced natural, involuntary body tremors after danger had passed. Rather than being pathological, these tremors appeared to help the body discharge deep muscular tension and calm the nervous system. From this experience he developed a simple sequence of movements designed to safely activate this innate tremor response.
Kaila is a Certified TRE™ Provider through TRE™ Global. She offers this practice with presence, discernment, and deep regard for each individual’s unique rhythm and process. Her direct teacher is Lynea Gillen, a Licensed Professional Counselor, Registered Yoga Teacher and decades long somatic practitioner. Lynea studied under David Berceli and has facilitated and taught TRE for over a decade.
TRE & Psychotherapy
TRE may be practiced on its own or alongside psychotherapy. For individuals with a history of severe trauma or a mental health diagnosis, integrating this practice with the support of a licensed mental health clinician is recommended. This combined approach can support healing at both the nervous system and cognitive levels.
